What scares me about my calling…

I’m in a really cool stage in my life, a stage that scares me in so many ways, a stage that creates insecurities, a stage that will bring completeness to a big part of my calling, a stage that we all must face eventually, a stage that I am running at full fledge.  The stage in my life I am speaking of is “the passing of the baton”.  When I first started here at the HT 2.5 years ago there was two statements that was and is the backbone of what I exist here to do. ” Love people more than they have ever been loved” and “give opportunity to those gifted and called.”

For the first time 180remix is about to have a massive worship team tryout.  As of right now we have over 35 students signed up.  I just got chills when I wrote that number.  What a sweet thing to be a part of, that 35 students would deem it cool enough to come to a tryout.  Worship is becoming a relevant part of our students life’s @ HT.  There are about 20 students who have signed up to tryout at worship vox or worship leaders.  HOLY COW!  I am so floored right now.  We are doing it.  Our God is getting the praise He deserves.

The next generation of worshipers and worship leaders is going to fly past every achievement I have ever met, they are going to view things through a much more creative eye than I ever have, they are going to go places I am still hoping to go.  I am no longer just a worship leader but now a discipler of worshipers.

The scary part about all this, is not what you may think.  I am not worried about getting replaced because eventually I won’t be cool anymore, that will be awhile I hope. I am not worried about getting musically out-performed because that happens every week.  I am not scared about the next generation dropping the ball because I can see the eagerness and pure passion in their eyes.  The scary part about this is God has called me to be a maker of disciples, He has called me to train, He has called me to spiritually parent worship in this house and I am completely overwhelmed.  I can not do this, I am not capable, and definetely not trained to do this……but I know I am called.

It is a good thing to be overwhelmed.  It was once said, “Any goal you can reach on your own measure was not God’s.”

God grant me the ability, passion, perseverance, focus, patience, and Spirit to do this. To train up the next generation.  Let me be big enough to continue to be trained and groomed by You and those You’ve chosen to speak into my life.  God this is Your calling, Your ministry, Your church…..use me as You wish.

My Fathers Day is not a Joke

Every year at Fathers day I come to work build a set, we do some sort of cool service, give away some dad stuff and call it a day.  Before I get to far in this, know that I love Dad’s Day (bc I am a dad) and I love making it a huge day at church. After our great service I get treated to 2 awesome lunch’s, one at the in-laws and the other at my parents.  This years menu, steaks and burgers at one and roast and veggies at the other.  Let me say I love Dad’s Day.  I will probably get like 4 cards, one from my wife, my son, in-laws, and parents.

Here is the joke,  Dad’s in general are horrible at what they do.  The word Dad now is just that a word.  It used to be a honor.  Back in biblical days to have a child was to have a heir.  To make your name last for one more generation. The name stood for something.  The divorce rate in America is 41% right now.  That means about half of the kids that live in the country I call home don’t really know what their last name should be.  My friend Josh Mayo just recently spoke at one of our main services and he said, “Dad’s who bring their families to church are more likely to make a life long spiritual impact on their child than if brought by just Mom.”

It’s sad to say this but more families attend church statistically on Mother’s Day than Father’s Day.  Dad’s for whatever reason would rather go the lake, stay at home watch nascar, sleep in, or get to their favorite restaurant early enough to beat the crowd.

I would love to see Father’s Day become a day where Christian men stand up for their families and the families they have relationship with and lead them into God’s house.  What an incredible revival we would have if Christian Dad’s would take God’s commandment “go and make disciples of all people” on their shoulders.  Reaching out and seeking out the lost and unsaved and making their mission to love those people in need.  Leaving no doubt in any kids mind what their last name was and who they are and will become.  I want my son to be proud to be a Morris, as I am so proud to be a Morris.

The Morris name lives strong because of the relationship my Dad has with God and with his family.  My father has reached out and helped those in need, giving honor and glory to God for all the things he has accomplished.  My Dad is not a joke and neither is Father’s Day.

Here is the National Shrine to Infant Baby Jesus of Prague.  I passed a sign on my way home from OKC and had to stop and see it.  It was in Prague, OK at a Catholic church.  Pretty Fantastic!

Things I Learned from the ButterCream Gang

I am about to date myself, How many of you have ever heard of Feature Family Films?  They were a Christian movie company how strived to make good, clean movies in the early 90’s.  It was a order only thing, monthly subscription if I remember right.  There was the infamous “On Our Own”, “ButterCream Gang”, and “Rigeletto”, just to name a few.  Well last night me and a couple friends threw down the HD dvd’s and picked an old vhs of the ButterCream Gang.

The first thing I learned was:

1. VHS does not age well, thank you for technology.

2. Help those in need.  Widow Mrs. Jenkins fall.

3. People change.  Pete Turner - Pete Sanchez

4. Don’t judge.  Margaret is hot without her glasses.

5. Earthquakes can be good.  Eldon’s jump-roping.

6. People can’t take what you give.  Mr. Carpenter gives Pete and boys a cold coke and snack cake.

I’m trying to find Rigeletto and On Our Own right now.  Hopefully I will blog about those soon!

A trailer for your enjoyment…..if you have never seen these FFF classics you should!

Making Life Easy

Ever wake up in the morning and just feel lucky to be alive or have this crazy feeling that someone bigger than you is in control.  I love knowing that someone cares so much about me that they promise I will never go hungry, never grow to faint, and never know death.  I love having and believing in God.  If you step back and look at how huge the world is it is easy to find “your” spot, what “you” were designed to do.  Whatever your calling or desire may be God has made it clear what we are to do with our lives.  Serve (Joshua 24:15), Follow (Luke 9:23), Worship (Psalms 29:2), Make Disciples (Matt. 28:19).  I don’t know about you but that makes my crazy and busy life a little simpler.  Slow down today, make sure you are living up to God’s expectations and His callings, don’t get to caught up in the man-driven world.  There is a spiritual under tone out there, and I want it to be my life line.

God do something huge in my life, let me pray without ceasing, worship you through out my day, serve You, and make disciples for Your kingdom.  Help me, not to add You to my life, but to make You my life.
